The Batman : A New Angle on Bruce Wayne

Image
The long awaited 2021's The Batman trailer was finally released at the DC Fandome Event and fans around the world cheered for it. There are also some voices questioning concerns as to the slight differences of this Batman's interpretation compared to the previous Batmen that we had. Robert Pattinson is our new Batman, and when he was announced to be the new Bruce Wayne, not everyone exactly was happy with this news. Probably because he is mostly known for his Twilight role, a franchise that is not known for being highly rated or praised for its acting, rather the opposite so of course, people would not associate the lead actor from this cringy vampire franchise to be the next face of the most popular superhero. However, having watched several of Robert's recent works, I did not share the same concerns. If anything, his acting from Good Time (2017), High Life (2018) and The Lighthouse (2019) not only assures me that he is going to do fine, but to be fair his performance

Birds of Prey (2020) Review : Does This Even Needed in the DCEU?

Image
This film in a nutshell: "Sob sob look at me I'm an opressed woman and all men are evil but btw! Let's dress up like hookers and kill innocent people on our rampage because that's women empowerment!" Seriously nothing works in this. The story and acting was messy and cringy, music was out of place, and the characters are nothing like their counterparts in comics or TV series. Huntress and Black Canary in Arrow are hundred times better. Black Mask was a disgrace. Seriously why did Ewan even agreed to this. After many achievements by DC in 2019 with the Oscar-winning Joker, a fresh and unique take on superhero lives by Doom Patrol, HBO's Watchmen, and the TV mega-crossover that is Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths and a good family movie Shazam, Birds of Prey was a bad way to start 2020. Ah, maybe 2020 is so jinxed by it that is why this year sucks so much. But I think Wonder Woman 1984 would be good. Hopefully. 4/10

Aquaman Review : A Fresh Restart for DCEU

Image
James Wan is a creative and brilliant director who managed to balance between adapting comic-accurate elements in  Aquaman  while ensuring it's "cheesiness" was not overboard and that the film would still fits in the DCEU's aesthetics. Aquaman is to me, the best DCEU movie so far (before Joker came into the existence). It was fun, energetic, a campy ride with emotional moments and it served more as a fantasy movie with a sprinkle of superhero elemens on top of it. I can't help but to think that it is a mix of Thor, Black Panther, Star Wars & Lord of The Rings. And the mix worked perfectly.  DCEU, thanks to Zack Snyder, has been this gloomy, brooding, supposedly "realistic" looking-universe, and it was daunting. Such settings might be suitable for a Batman film, but not all DC characters. James understand this and he really did his best in giving the faithful adaptation of Aquaman's comics - known for its campiness (talking wit

Joker Review : A Masterpiece of Character Study

Image
Joker  is a beautiful portrait of a man disregarded and opressed by society and the system he's in. A perfect blend of a realistic adaptation of a comic book character that did not forget of it's comic book elements; Joker is a genre-changer for comic book movies. Obviously, Joaquin Phoenix is the biggest helm of the film. His performance as Arthur is the best performance from an actor I've seen in recent years, and it is about time for this guy to hold that shiny bold naked Oscar. He laughed, he cried, he ran, he danced, he beat and he killed. Todd Phillips, the director of Joker said that most of the scenes were improvised by Joaquin and I think that is pretty spot on. He totally embodied Arthur Fleck, the man who would then become The Joker, and he succesfully handled the burden of playing one of the hardest character to play ever in film history.  You would enjoy, sympathise and cheer, to see Arthur's descend to madness, and his rise as Gotham's Clow
